Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important political figure commented the vandalism left him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
